"I first worked with Alan in 1996 at Digital Link when I asked for his help in solving a T1 CSU timing problem. He solved the problem within a few days and I continued to use his help on several other projects at Digital Link. Later, after the founding of Tiara Networks (later Tasman Networks), Alan designed a MIPS processor-based DS3 and Octal T1/E1 interface modules for our initial product and wrote the VxWorks drivers for the modules. He also designed a HSSI/Serial (V.35/RS-449/V.11/RS-232) interface module for the same product line. Throughout, Alan showed a thorough familiarity with all of the applicable communications protocols and standards; a quick grasp of existing designs and how to improve them; a well-organized design style based on clear specifications, schematics and design files; and rapid and thorough checkout of prototype units in the lab. Without question, I would use Alan's help again on appropriate design projects."

"I have directly worked with Alan from 2004 to 2008. During this period, he contributed tremendously to Tasman and later Nortel Secure Router product lines. He has taken full ownership for an entire system and taken it from conception to production. His work spans a wide range of Data Routers, Voice Gateways, and Security Appliances to name a few. Alan has an extensive background in datacom, telecom and networking and he is particularly proficient in WAN and LAN technologies all the way from POTS, ISDN BRI, T1 and T3 to SONET/SDH, Gigabit Ethernet and multi-gig fabric buses. He is an excellent hardware design generalist with emphasis on high-speed board and system development, high-speed digital design, FPGA/CPLD development in Verilog, signal integrity, analog, power, CPU and DSP subsystem design. In addition, he has excellent software skills and he is capable of coding for the systems he designs! Alan made key decisions related to technology, system architecture, and vendor selection and worked closely with compliance engineers to obtain EMC, telecom, safety and NEBS approvals. I would highly recommend Alan for any technical position."

Director, Hardware Engineering, Nortel
"Having worked for Alan when I was a Product Manager and he was Director of Marketing and Development responsible for multiple computer networking products, I can recommend Alan as a solid, hands-on development engineer as well as an effective manager and leader. At a later time, Alan was retained as a consultant to assist in developing programs for product performance testing. These IP networking products included voice transmission as well as data transmission and it was imperative that the interaction and mutual affects of voice (which needed guaranteed delivery) and data (which if not properly managed would cause unacceptable voice transmission performance) were properly understood. Alan’s work on this project pinpointed necessary design changes and allowed us to go to market with a much stronger understanding for set up, configuration and management than we would otherwise have had."
